Recap: Above & Beyond "Group Therapy" at Roseland Ballroom with Anjunabeats Pals Andrew Bayer, Beckwith, Norin & Rad

To put things in perspective, roughly 4,000 fans braved the below freezing temperatures on one of the coldest nights of the year in the Big Apple to get themselves into Roseland Ballroom for some “Group Therapy” from the legendary trio, Above & Beyond. I can almost guarantee you that everyone in that venue would agree that waiting in line for three blocks was 100 percent worth it. The sold out night was a celebration of Above & Beyonds’ label, Anjunabeats, latest release Anjunabeats Volume 10 and one hell of a celebration it was. Above & Beyond was joined by an Anjunabeats lineup that consisted of Andrew Bayer, Beckwith, and Norin & Rad. It was just perfect.

Due to some prior obligations I walked into Roseland at the perfect time, exactly 12:30 pm. I walked right into the madness. The boys started the party off slow playing more a melodic trance set that built up over time to sheer bass craziness. It was truly the perfect night minus the fact that Paavo was not in attendance? I really don’t understand how part of the trio could miss their own album release party, regardless, Tony and Jono absolutely killed it. Those two brought enough energy to the crowd that I think we all forgot about Paavo once we got sucked into that deep melodic euphoria that is  ‘Group Therapy’. The boys dropped an array of track that kept the crowd moving all night long.  Some of my picks from the duo’s set that night were, “Wayfarer” by Audien, ‘The Day’ by Moby, Bream’s ‘Rhodos’, and ‘Time to Move’ by Carmen. As expected, when Tony and Paavo dropped classics such as their own, “Alchemy” and a “Thing Called Love“  the crowd freaked.

The night ended with Norin & Rad coming in to lose us out with a bang. The duo hit us hard with bangers like “F**kin Down” by Tristan Garner & Gregori Klosman, ‘Alright’ by Red Carpet and their own “Snap” and “Five Finger Death Punch.” Couldn’t have asked for a better performance or more energetic group to take the stage after such an industry heavy weight like, Above & Beyond. Norin and Rad did a fantastic job.

From production to setup the show was absolutely amazing. In addition, the sound that traveled inside of Roseland couldn’t be any better. It was crystal clear, yet bone chilling. I know people say this all of the time but this truly was one of my favorite shows that I have been to. Everything was just perfect. If Above & Beyond is scheduled to make a stop by you make it your business to get there. You’ll thank me later.
